I Spent a Day in Procida Italy and This Happened

Hey hey! While everyone else in Naples was talking about Capri, we did something different. My sister, her Neapolitan boyfriend and I took the ferry to Procida, the smallest island in the Gulf of Naples, for one single reason: sea urchin pasta at a restaurant right on the water. We got so much more than that. HOW TO GET TO PROCIDA: We started at Pozzuoli, walking from the Pozzuoli Solfatara train station down to the port. Pozzuoli itself is worth a mention: it is where Saint Paul first landed in Italy, and it sits on some of the most active volcanic ground in the country. Ferries to Procida leave from Pozzuoli and take between 20 and 40 minutes depending on the operator, with tickets starting around 9 euros. You can buy tickets online in advance or just show up at the port, but heads up: different companies run different ferries, so an early ticket from one company cannot always be exchanged for an earlier departure with another. Buying at the port on the day gives you more flexibility if your plans change. Its architecture has Greek origins, and the fishing village of Corricella is where scenes from The Talented Mr Ripley were filmed in 1999. The pastel colored houses were originally painted differently by each fisherman so they could recognize their own home from the water. The island is small enough to explore entirely on foot in a day, though the streets are steep and irregular, so comfortable shoes are essential. WHERE WE ATE: Ristorante da Maria alla Corricella, run by a local family right on the water in the fishing village. If you go, the sea urchin pasta, or spaghetti ai ricci di mare, is the dish to order. ROOKIE MISTAKE: Buying a ferry ticket online through one company assuming you can switch to an earlier departure with another. Different operators run completely separate ticketing systems. If your schedule is flexible, buying at the port the same day gives you more freedom to catch an earlier boat. NEXT VIDEO: Naples part 2.
