The word "Satsang" is derived from a Sanskrit word that means "gathering together for the truth" or, more simply, "being with the truth". In this insightful video, we have with us, Gavra Devi Ji. She is a popular folk singer from Bikaner, evidently well-loved by her audiences who call her "Buaji". Here she talks about her experiences and her passion for music. She was barely 10 years old when music fascinated her. This tiny bud was whole-heartedly nourished and supported by her father, who helped Gavra Devi learn and master the art of playing Dholak and Harmonium. Blessed with the right musical instinct, she was a quick learner and was able to memorize compositions just by hearing and observing. Firm in her faith, she is very generous and humble towards her audience who are equally delighted to spend time with her. Organized by Lokayan, Bikaner and partnered with Rajasthan Police, this is a folk festival providing a space where folk musicians, artists, scholars, students, and seekers can immerse themselves in the voices of Bhakti and Sufi saint-poets such as Kabir, Mira, Bulleh Shah, and many more, questioning and dissolving boundaries of caste, class, religion, and identity. The five editions, in 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019 were widely chronicled and appreciated.
