The Secret to Long Distance Running - Rest and Recovery

If you are training to run ultra marathon, there is a secret ingredient that will help you run faster and longer: rest and recovery. I know this isn't the flashiest topic in running - but marathon recovery and and proper rest in training is severely underrated in running. We often overlook resting and recovery in training to focus instead of hard workout. How many miles per week? What's your pace? But never: do you rest properly? Are you eating enough? If you feel my content as helped you along in your journey, I'd greatly appreciate your support. Please visit my Patreon: patreon.com/RunningwithSimon Curious about the gear I use and recommend? But if you are training for marathon and ultra marathon, there is a trap that will risk any progress: overtraining. Having proper rest and recovery is just as important as including long runs and intervals in your training. It will enable your body to fully benefit from these hard training sessions. But how do you maximize recovery? How can you find this balance of enough rest and recovery while still pushing your limits in training? Today, I'm discussing the priorities when it comes to recovery, so that you can focus on what's essential, and build a training plan that will help you optimally increase your fitness. In short, you'll have to take care of immediate priorities such as relaxing, cool down, stretching, hydrating, and eating. Then you'll work on getting enough protein in your diet to build back your muscle and become a stronger runner. Finally, you'll plan rest days, recovery weeks and off season cycles to prevent overtraining and prevent injuries. This weekend, I'm running Zion 100 Miles Ultra Marathon. I'll also use this to show you exactly what my body goes through during recovery after a 100 miles ultra marathon, and how I deal with recovery after the run. As always - Thanks for watching and remember - Work Hard! Believe in yourself! Push your limits!
