Have you ever longed to see Jesus when you were discouraged? Here is the experience of someone who had that privilege. “I found myself sitting in deep despair, my face hidden in my hands, pondering: If Jesus were on earth, I would go and prostrate myself at his feet and tell him how much I suffer. He would not reject me. He would have mercy on me, and I would love and serve him forever. At that moment, the door opened, and a handsome and beautiful person entered. He looked at me with compassion and said, ‘Do you wish to see Jesus? He is here, and you can see him if you want. Take whatever you have and follow me.’ “I heard those words with unspeakable joy and gladly gathered all my possessions, all the things I valued, and followed my guide. He led me to a steep and seemingly fragile staircase. As I began to climb the steps, my guide warned me to keep my eyes on the top, lest I become dizzy and fall.” Many others who climbed the steps fell before reaching the top. “Finally, we reached the last step and stopped before a door. There, the guide told me to leave everything I had brought with me. I gladly put it all down. Then the guide opened the door and told me to go in. In a moment, I was standing before Jesus. There was no mistake, for that beautiful figure, that expression of benevolence and majesty, could belong to no one else. When his gaze fell upon me, I knew at once that he understood all the difficulties of my life and all my innermost thoughts and emotions. “I tried to hide from his gaze, for I felt incapable of resisting it, but he approached me smiling, and placing his hand on my head, said, ‘Do not be afraid.’ The sweet sound of his voice made my heart vibrate with a joy I had never experienced before. I was too overjoyed to utter a word, and so, deeply moved, I fell prostrate at his feet.” While I lay there incapacitated, scenes of glory and beauty passed before my eyes, and I seemed to have attained the salvation and peace of heaven. Finally, when I regained my strength, I rose. The loving eyes of Jesus were still looking upon me, and His smile filled my soul with joy. His presence awakened in me holy reverence and ineffable love. […] “This dream instilled in me hope [and] faith […] and in my soul dawned the beautiful simplicity of trust in God” (Ellen G. White, Early Writings, pp. 110, 111). In the midst of life’s setbacks, we must focus on Jesus and what He reveals to us about how much God loves us. What hope can you draw from what is written in Romans 8:18 and 28?
