The fourth-generation Maserati Quattroporte was the first car designed by the genius Marcello Gandini (August 16, 1938 - March 13, 2024) after leaving Bertone. The timeline spans from 1994 to 2001. Compared to today's luxury sedans, or even the fifth-generation Quattroporte, it may seem small, but once you're inside, you'll find plenty of room and comfort for four adults. Power units include a 2.8L twin-turbo V6, and later models include a 3.2L twin-turbo V8 (European models also feature a 2.0L V6). Both V-engines have a 90-degree bank angle. Maximum output is 285hp for the V6 and 336hp for the V8 (both DIN). Automatic transmissions are the norm for models sold in Japan, and accordingly, those sold are also automatic, although it's not uncommon to come across a manual transmission. Maserati was financially weak in the 1990s and procured parts from a variety of suppliers. Maserati specialist Micro Depot, whom we visited for our interview, said, "There were about six different models in total, so they can't be simply categorized as early, mid, or late (laughs)."
