A camel enters a melon-field A melon sticks in its throat. Its owner ties a blanket around its throat and strikes the place with all his strength. The melon breaks into pieces and then it is easily swallowed. A man, seeing all this, pretends to be a doctor and while treating an old woman, kills her with the same method. He is forced to dig her grave and then beaten well, but he remains unaffected of the severe punishment. He again announces to be a great doctor but the people turn him away. Ultimately, he goes to the camel-men who teach him what is good for animals is not good for old men and women. Every person doth his business best. جس کا کام اسی کو ساجے اور کرے تو ٹھینگا باجے ********************************************* SHORT QUESTIONS OF THE LESSON (THE FOOLISH QUACK) ********************************************* i. What is a clump of trees? A group of trees growing together at one place is called a clump of trees. ii. What was stuck in the camel’s throat? When the camel was eating melons in a melon-field, a melon was stuck in its throat. iii. What did the quack pretend to cure? The quack pretended to cure goitre. iv. What did the quack do with the old woman? The quack tied a blanket around the neck of the old woman, then he struck the place with a heavy mallet using all his force. As a result, the poor old creature died on the spot. v. What was the result of the cure? The result of the cure was that the poor old woman died on the spot. vi. What was the punishment inflicted upon the quack by the villagers? The villagers forced him to dig the grave of the old woman. The ground was stiff and hard, so he made slow progress. When the villagers saw that he had dug the grave and the old lady had been buried, they beat him well and let him go. vii. For whom did the quack dig the grave? The quack dug the grave of the old woman who had died because of his mistaken treatment. viii. What did the quack do in the next village? Uninfluenced by the severity of his punishment, he climbed up his camel and went to the next village. He again declared himself to be a great doctor. ix. Why didn’t the villagers let the old man get cured? When the quack said that he would try his best to cure the old man, but if he died, he (the quack) would not be compelled to dig his grave. Listening to this, the villagers understood that he was not a doctor. So, they did not let the old man get cured. x. Why did the quack come back to the camel-men?
