What is an #emotion and how important is it in our lives? We are thinking, rational beings, but all the choices in our lives are not dictated—as we think—by #thought. I'll give you a macroscopic example: #relationships. We don't fall in love voluntarily, and by falling in love I don't just mean a couple, I mean falling in love with an ideology, a profession, even with one's self-image. To simply understand how important emotions are, you have to compare yourself to a car: emotions are the engine; without the engine's thrust, a car remains stationary. The mind, the thought, what is it? The driver. It's what can avoid potholes, avoid crashing, but only if and when it manages to keep emotions at bay. Because if you're on a curve and the engine is revving, you'll crash even if you're holding the steering wheel. Emotion is an #energy that moves from the inside out. Emotions are a #language that allows us to be authentic; and what does authentic mean? It means being in touch with ourselves. Instead, we try to keep them at bay and try to prove that they're not real. Start believing in your emotions. For example, if you feel nauseous when you go to work, anxious, and strangely nervous, your body and your natural self are telling you that this isn't a good situation and that something needs to be reconsidered. Emotions can be divided into two main types: primary emotions, which arise in response to an external event; Now, I don't believe the fears you experience every day are fear of a fire or of a lion that might tear you to pieces. As human beings, we have created emotions that don't stem from external events, but from our thoughts: for example, who among you is afraid of the judgment of others? Remember: emotions shouldn't be chased away by avoiding them, because otherwise our discomfort increases. I'm afraid, do I avoid them? I feel worse, and I never build courage this way. With anger, instead of understanding that it's a signal of something happening inside us, we claim that others are to blame for our anger. In reality, the entire outside world can be a trigger that sets off a mechanism, but that mechanism then allows you to access what's inside you: if there's a charged powder keg inside, an incredible charge will explode within you. If there's calm and tranquility inside, there will certainly be anger, and it will be two kinds of anger: one, intensity, appropriate to the situation; the other, duration: how long does that anger last? If you've been angry for days, months, it means you have an internal theater playing a movie that keeps that anger alive. Speaking of #sadness, a consideration of conditioning comes to mind. A sad person is not socially accepted. Every day I meet people, and every day I'm shocked by how socially unacceptable sadness is, because it seems like weakness! Being sad doesn't mean being weak; sadness has a specific function: to integrate a loss into our lives. This is the three-card trick: anger, sadness, and fear risk, if we judge ourselves and as long as we judge ourselves, feeding off each other without us realizing it. That is, I'm sad and I judge myself because I'm afraid of being sad, but being afraid doesn't bring me infinite joy or serenity; it makes me angry. Wherever I start, sadness covers up anger, which covers up fear and becomes a washing machine. How do we get out of all this? We get out of it by not judging our emotions, by accepting them, and by moving through them.
