Natalia Chueca: “Zaragoza será la primera ciudad en formar a todos sus vecinos en IA”

The mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca, presented an ambitious plan at ‘Wake Up, Spain!’ to transform the Aragonese capital into a technological leader without losing its essence as a "friendly city." Chueca announced the imminent launch of an AI-powered virtual assistant for municipal services and a partnership with Microsoft to train all citizens over the age of 16 in this technology. The goal is to create a talent ecosystem that will provide a competitive advantage for attracting new investments and improving the quality of urban life. Zaragoza is experiencing unprecedented economic expansion, with announced investments reaching €90 billion and a forecast of creating 35,000 jobs by 2029. To manage this growth, the City Council is investing in digital twins and the installation of sensors in infrastructure to prevent natural disasters. However, the mayor pointed to the connection to the electrical grid as the main "limiting factor" and urged the Ministry for Ecological Transition to address the region's power needs. Regarding housing, Chueca contrasted her administration's efforts, with 3,350 public housing units under construction and the implementation of the "express licensing" process, against the "paralysis" of Pedro Sánchez's government. The mayor denounced the lack of transfer of state-owned land and the inaction of Sareb (the Spanish asset management company) in the city.
