2024 ഡിസംബറിലാണ് ട്രയല്‍ റണ്‍ പൂര്‍ത്തിയാക്കി വിഴിഞ്ഞം തുറമുഖം പ്രവര്‍ത്തന സജ്ജമായത്. ഒരു വര്‍ഷം പരമാവധി 10 ലക്ഷം കണ്ടെയ്നര്‍ കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്യുക എന്നതായിരുന്നു തുറമുഖം ആരംഭിക്കുന്ന സമയത്തെ ലക്ഷ്യങ്ങളിലൊന്ന്. എന്നാല്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനം ആരംഭിച്ച് ഒന്‍പത് മാസമായപ്പോഴേക്കും 10 ലക്ഷം കണ്ടെയ്നര്‍ കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്ത് വിഴിഞ്ഞം റെക്കോര്‍ഡിട്ടു. ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 28 വരെയുള്ള കണക്കു പ്രകാരം 460 കപ്പലുകളിലായി 10.12 ലക്ഷം കണ്ടെയ്നറാണ് തുറമുഖത്തെത്തിയത്. അതായത്, ഓരോ മാസവും കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്തത് ശരാശരി ഒരുലക്ഷത്തലേറെ കണ്ടെയ്നര്‍. ഇന്ത്യയുടെ തെക്കുകിഴക്കന്‍ തീരത്തെ തുറമുഖങ്ങളില്‍, കണ്ടെയ്നര്‍ നീക്കത്തില്‍ മുന്‍നിരയിലാണ് ഇന്ന് വിഴിഞ്ഞത്തിന്റെ സ്ഥാനം. India’s ambitious maritime infrastructure project, Vizhinjam International Seaport, has achieved a remarkable milestone — handling over 1 million containers (TEUs) within just 9 months of commencing operations. Initially aiming to process up to 1 million containers annually, Vizhinjam Port surpassed this target three months ahead of schedule, marking a historic achievement in Indian port operations. According to data available up to August 28, 2025, a total of 10.12 lakh containers arrived at the port via 460 vessels, averaging over 1 lakh containers per month. This phenomenal performance positions Vizhinjam as one of the top-performing ports on India’s southeastern coast, revolutionizing container traffic and port logistics in the region.
