ആഗോള സമുദ്രവ്യാപാര ഭൂപടത്തില്‍ കേരളത്തിന്റെ പേര് സ്വര്‍ണ്ണലിപികളാല്‍ എഴുതച്ചേര്‍ത്ത വിഴിഞ്ഞം അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര തുറമുഖം അടുത്ത ചരിത്രനേട്ടത്തലേക്ക് കാല്‍വെക്കുന്നു. കടല്‍മാര്‍ഗ്ഗം കപ്പലുകളിലെത്തിച്ച ചരക്കുകള്‍ ഇനി ഇന്ത്യയുടെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളലേക്ക് കരമാര്‍ഗ്ഗം ഒഴുകിത്തുടങ്ങും. ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 18ഓടെ വിഴിഞ്ഞത്തുനിന്നുള്ള ആദ്യ ചരക്കുലോറി പ്രയാണം ആരംഭിക്കുമെന്നാണ് തുറമുഖ വകുപ്പില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള സൂചനകള്‍.കഴിഞ്ഞ കുറച്ചു ആഴ്ചകളായി വിഴിഞ്ഞത്ത് ട്രയല്‍ റണ്‍ വിജയകരമായി പുരോഗമിക്കുകയാണ്. ലോകത്തിലെ തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ മദര്‍ഷിപ്പുകള്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടെ നിരവധി കപ്പലുകളാണ് ഇതിനകം വിഴിഞ്ഞം തീരമണഞ്ഞത്. The Vizhinjam International Port, which has placed Kerala’s name prominently on the global maritime trade map, is moving towards another historic milestone. Goods brought to the port by ships through sea routes will soon begin moving to various parts of India through road transport. According to indications from the Port Department, the first cargo truck movement from Vizhinjam is expected to begin by August 18. Trial runs at Vizhinjam have been progressing successfully over the past few weeks. Several ships, including some of the world’s largest mother vessels, have already arrived at the Vizhinjam coast.
