On the 21st, the United States and Iran held a four-party consultation in Switzerland with mediating countries Pakistan and Qatar. While Iran strongly demanded the end of its military operations in Lebanon, US President Trump reacted negatively to Iran's announcement of the re-blocking of the Strait of Hormuz and warned of further attacks, resulting in contentious talks. I would like to ask for Japan's reaction to the start of the consultations and what it expects from future discussions. [Foreign Minister Motegi] On the 21st, the United States and Iran held their first consultations since the signing of the US-Iran memorandum of understanding in Switzerland, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar. I do not believe that the situation was "contentious" as you mentioned. Japan strongly hopes that through the steady implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding by all parties, free and safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz will be promptly resumed, and that a final agreement will be reached as soon as possible. From this perspective, Japan welcomes the holding of these consultations. We believe it is important for mediating countries and the entire international community to work together to create the necessary environment for the smooth progress of the US-Iran consultations, and Japan will continue to make every diplomatic effort to that end.
