Stationeers: Phase Change Mechanics
In this video I will attempt to talk about phase changes with the gases. What it is, how to search them, what to expect, and some experiments to hopefully show what happens as I mess with N2O by compressing it, moving it around, and at the end a simple setup for how to clean your base of pesky liquid water without contaminating any existing liquid pipe network. Long video but hopefully I have put this information in a way that it can help you or come back and refer to it at a later point. 0:00 Intro 1:40 - 18:51 Phase change Science 2:00 states of matter 3:05 water Real world example 4:12 Finding gas information in stationpedia 4:25 Explanation of a gas's information card 5:14 Latent Heat 7:08 mols per L of liquid 7:28 Freezing temperature 8:28 Boiling Temperature (Water only) 8:56 Min condensation pressure and max liquid temperature 9:52 Vital information (Freezing temp + Max liquid Temp) 10:17 Phase Change Diagram 10:28 Manipulating the graph (Scale and temp units) 11:25 Interpreting the graph (Solids, liquids, gases) 13:08 Critical pressure and temp threshold 14:18 Key takeaways 16:20 How to store or bypass? 16:50 Equilibrium 18:04 Phase Change isolated system 18:51 Kits for moving between gas and liquid networks 19:15 Pipe Valve kits (Condensation valves and expansion Valves) 20:05 Pressure Regulator Kits (Pressurant Valves and Purge Valves) 21:50 Liquid Drain Kit (Passive liquid inlets, active liquid outlet, and Passive liquid drain) 23:18 - 44:15 Experiments and tests 23:46 Forcing condensation with increasing pressure (Removing Volume) 25:49 Forcing Evaporation with decreasing pressure (Adding volume) 27:45 using kits to move liquids around 28:12 pipe stress 29:10 Really stressed pipes and when damage occurs 30:08 Using a condensation valve to move liquids to an empty liquid pipe 31:15 breaking my liquid pipe 32:15 How to know what broke a pipe 32:45 How to pressurize liquid pipes 33:40 Forcing condensation with increasing pressure (Adding pressure) 35:20 Delaying the inevitable (add more volume to reduce stress) 36:20 Condensation Valve: safely moving liquids to a pressurized liquid pipe 37:00 Purge valve and expansion valve prep 37:40 Using an expansion valve and dangers with it 38:23 Using a purge valve 39:40 showing how vents pressurize pipe networks and cause phase change 40:30 returning to purge valve forcing evaporation 43:30 closing experiments 44:15 Venting unwanted liquids 44:45 Condensation valve + Passive liquid inlet 47:50 adding a 1 way liquid valve before the passive liquid inlet 48:15 Adding overpressure release (1 way valve + cowl) 49:30 vent setup for forcing phase change and where it is useful 51:40 Gas to Liquid to Gas + Cowl for releasing liquids 54:18 Closing for venting liquids 54:56 Bonus: How to cleanse water out of your habitat 56:20 Building the contraption 59:12 Completed water atmosphere extraction system
