Great Hikes Off the Beaten Path in Glacier National Park: Firebrand Pass

From beaver built wetlands to aspen groves, across scree slopes and ultimately, into the high country of Glacier Park, with a moderate elevation gain of 2000 feet, Firebrand pass is another great off the beaten path trail for a number of reasons. First, it’s just 10 miles round trip, but passes through a wonderful variety of terrain. Second, this is another trail that is accessed from the edge of the park, meaning that you can experience all that Glacier has to offer without the lines and the entrance fee. The trailhead is one of the easiest to access of the entire park system, but it’s a bit tricky to find. It’s right off Highway 2, just east of Marias Pass, but there are no signs and the parking lot is below the highway, so just be watching for mile marker 203. 5 miles one way and 2000' elevation gain.
