【FIP治療】往診専門獣医に気をつけろ。家で診てもらう安心が命取りになる現実|第162話@猫伝染性腹膜炎

This time, I'd like to talk about the increasing number of "mobile-visit veterinarians." Mobile visits are very convenient. Especially for cats, considering the stress of travel to the hospital and waiting rooms, I think it's a very useful option for vaccinations, preventative care, simple health checkups, monitoring chronic diseases, and end-of-life care. However, mobile visits are not a panacea. Recently, a cat came to our clinic because its owner suspected it had FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). The cat had weight loss, abdominal distension, and a decreased level of consciousness, and it seemed that the mobile veterinarian had administered steroids, antibiotics, kidney medication, kidney-specific diet, and coronavirus antibody titer tests. However, after examining the cat at our clinic, we determined that it did not have FIP. It had a perforated intestine and infectious peritonitis. It required emergency surgery and is currently hospitalized and recovering. What I want to convey this time is not to criticize mobile-visit veterinarians. It's important for pet owners to understand what can be done at home visits and what can only be done at a hospital. X-rays, ultrasound examinations, hospitalization, oxygen management, intravenous fluid therapy, emergency surgery. These tests and treatments can generally only be performed at a hospital. "I don't want to take my cat to the hospital because I'm worried about the stress." I understand that feeling completely. However, if it's a life-threatening condition, getting the necessary tests and treatments is the top priority. There's nothing more stressful than death. Even for cats suspected of having FIP, relying solely on home visits is extremely dangerous. What appears to be FIP could actually be another life-threatening illness. If you're considering hiring a veterinarian specializing in home visits, I recommend confirming which hospital they will refer you to in an emergency, and what they will do if hospitalization or surgery is necessary. Convenience and safety are not the same thing. #FIP #Feline Infectious Peritonitis #Mobile Veterinary Clinic #Cat Diseases #Animal Hospital #Veterinarian #Infectious Peritonitis #Cat Health #Yumi Animal Hospital
