A Normal Day of Cutting Lumber Turned into a Fire Emergency!

We loaded up the trailer and went to pick up some much-needed pine logs from a friend who’s clearing property. Simple plan: haul logs, saw lumber, knock out a board-and-batten siding order. That’s not how it went. The logs were just big enough to squeeze out a few 10” boards, nowhere near as many as I needed. Frustration set in, the job slowed down, and I called it a day short. The next morning made things worse. High winds took down a tree onto a power line by the road, sparking a woods fire uncomfortably close to the house and sawmill. The fire department couldn’t cross the live power line, so everything stopped while we waited on the power company and forestry crews. A dozer finally cut a fire break and kept it from spreading any closer. Then the rain came — much needed after how dry it’s been — but by then the ground was soaked, muddy, and there was no more cutting wood that day. This is real sawmill life. Some days everything lines up… and some days absolutely nothing goes to plan.
