For weeks we’ve been watching a family of Common Redstarts raise their six tiny chicks in a nest tucked away inside our summer kitchen. Today was the day the first little birds were finally ready to leave the nest, and by pure chance we witnessed every emotional second. It was a day filled with joy, excitement… and heartbreak. One brave little fledgling made its first flight but sadly didn’t survive. Another flew straight into our house, turning the afternoon into a gentle rescue mission before it safely reunited with its parents. Watching these tiny birds take their first steps into the world reminded us just how beautiful—and fragile—nature really is. Life at the villa continued as always. During another scorching summer day on Lake Como, we loaded the trailer again and again, clearing years of old furniture, garden waste and forgotten treasures, making several trips to the recycling centre. It’s hard work, but every load brings our historic home one step closer to the future we’ve dreamed about. As the sun begins to set, we slow down beside the lake, ending this emotional day with the peaceful beauty that makes life on Lake Como so special.
