At Tokyo Bay Japanese Language Academy, we practice student-centered classes where students take on the roles of "teacher" and "student." A camera followed a day in such a class. The student on duty (MC) gives the command, and groups discuss the meanings of kanji compound words and grammar, present their findings, and give each other feedback. The teacher deliberately stands at the edge of the classroom to draw out the students' abilities.
