Wie man einen alten Armeeanhänger vor dem Schrottplatz rettet
[email protected] In this video, we're bringing home an old East German Army (NVA) water trailer and getting it ready for use with our cattle and pasture. Having previously watered our animals with IBC containers on old trailers, we finally needed a better solution. The IBCs freeze up quickly in winter, aren't protected from light, and are prone to algae growth. Besides, the trailers we've used so far were anything but reliable. So, Bartfarm now has another 900-liter water trailer from the former NVA. Sounds good at first, but as is so often the case, it quickly becomes clear after the purchase: even with such an old East German trailer, you can easily end up with a lemon. Missing parts, leaks, broken fittings, no brakes, and a whole lot of improvised shoddy work by the previous owner mean that what seemed like a good purchase quickly turns into a small renovation project. We unload the old water trailer with the front loader, do an initial inspection, and then tackle the biggest problem: the tank is leaking. So, it's back to tinkering, disassembling, sealing, improvising, and testing to see if the trailer can ultimately serve as a frost-proof watering trough for cows and other animals. Of course, not everything goes according to plan. Old epoxy resin, questionable repair ideas, Sika sealant, expanding foam, and plenty of swearing are, as always, part of the process. In the end, we'll see if the trailer is truly watertight and whether the purchase was worthwhile, or if we've simply brought another piece of junk onto the farm.
