Mineral de Pozos⎮Agave artesanal y memoria histórica
Mineral de Pozos is not a ghost town. It is a territory that has changed its purpose throughout the centuries. In this episode, we explore how artisanal agave and mezcal production in Guanajuato represent a new stage in the economic and cultural history of Pozos. Where there was once mining and the extraction of wealth, today there is agricultural work, stone ovens, and traditional distillation. But the story doesn't begin with mezcal. The second part of the tour takes us to the former Hacienda of Santa Brígida, one of the most powerful symbols of the region's mining past. Its ovens and ruins speak not only of colonial prosperity but also of conflict, territorial expansion, and Indigenous resistance. The Chichimeca War profoundly marked this area of what is now northeastern Guanajuato. It was in this context that the so-called "Jonás" and other Chichimeca groups emerged, defending their territory against mining and colonial expansion. Understanding Pozos means understanding this historical tension between the exploitation of the land and its defense. This chapter connects three moments from the same land: – Indigenous territory and Chichimeca resistance – Mineral wealth and the former Santa Brígida Hacienda – The present of agave and artisanal mezcal Because the land doesn't disappear. It transforms. And each historical layer leaves a mark on those who inhabit it. ⏰ Chapters ⏰ 00:00 Mineral de Pozos: Ghost town? 00:39 Antonio Castellanos and Cuanax mezcal 01:30 Artisanal mezcal production 03:49 Fuel conservation.
