3 RELATOS ESTOICOS (Epicteto, Séneca y Zenón) - Sobre las AMISTADES, las CRÍTICAS y el COMPROMISO

My mission in this philosophy documentary will be to narrate and comment on three Stoic tales whose lessons I find truly interesting and pragmatic: (a) theatrical partisanship, (b) the choice of friends, and (c) the fighter's commitment. Of course, the main representatives of Stoicism will make appearances, from Seneca to Epictetus, including Cicero, Zeno of Citium, and Marcus Aurelius. ⌚ Timeline: 00:00-02:31 - Introduction. 02:31-10:16 - (1) Theatrical partisanship. 10:16-22:41 - (2) The choice of friends. 22:41-29:09 - (3) The fighter's commitment. 29:09-30:00 - Conclusion. 🎙️ Support the channel ► paypal.me/ramtalks See you on my social media? 💣 Instagram ►   / ramtalks   📱 TikTok ► @ramtalks 💬 Twitter ►   / ramtalksyt   ♣️ Facebook ►   / ramtalksyt   🔎 Bibliography ► 1) Marcus Aurelius - "Meditations". 2) Lucius Annaeus Seneca - "Letters to Lucilius". 3) Epictetus - "Discourses". What if I told you that the history of Stoicism begins with an unfortunate mishap? In 336 BC. Zeno of Citium was born into a merchant family where interest in philosophy was conspicuous by its absence. During one of his usual voyages across the Mediterranean, the merchant ship he was traveling on sank in a violent storm, causing him to lose most of his belongings and eventually arrive in Athens. Once immersed in the polis, Zeno entered a bookstore where the manager was reading aloud some of Xenophon's dialogues. After being fascinated by the content of his teachings, he dared to ask a question that would change the course of his life and that of many others: "Where could I find such a person?" Just at that moment, a well-known Athenian philosopher named Crates was wandering around the store, so the bookseller simply extended his arm to point at him with his index finger. From that day on, the native of Citium became his disciple, and over the years, the disciple of other thinkers such as Stilpon and Xenocrates. However, there came a point when Zeno felt no longer fully satisfied with the lessons of his mentors and, consequently, decided to found the Stoic school and movement. According to the ancient biographer Diogenes Laertius, Zeno often joked about him with the following words: "Since I was shipwrecked, I am on the right path." Although the veracity of this story is still somewhat unclear, such statements are perhaps one of the most faithful reflections of a very extensive collection of Stoic principles and values: locus of control, awareness of death, love of fate, etc. Copyright disclaimer (Section 107 of the Copyright Act. 1976): Fair use is permitted for purposes such as criticism, commentary, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
