Кого из советских солдат боялись в Афганистане?
Which Soviet soldiers were feared in Afghanistan? In the 1980s, Soviet soldiers truly terrified the West. The reason for this was the war in Afghanistan. The actions of the special forces group there terrified the enemy. And Hero of Russia Anatoly Lebed deserves special attention in this regard. Why? The Novy Soldat channel will tell you about this right now! Afghanistan welcomed Soviet troops on its territory on December 25, 1979. They conducted combat operations until February 15, 1989. Over those 10 years, the Soviet army achieved much, both for the country and for itself—or, more precisely, for its technical equipment. The fact is, the latter was completely inadequate, given the realities of the Afghan war. The climate in that country is extremely changeable. Daytime temperatures can reach 40°C, and the sand and rocks become so hot that it's impossible to lean against them. The Soviet paratroopers found themselves in incredibly difficult conditions here. Plus, the traditional combat equipment the soldiers used wasn't designed for such conditions. They had to find a way around it. For example, in the summer of 1982, Lieutenant Egiazarov's group (GRU special forces) was tasked with setting up an observation post in the Panjshir mountains. To prevent the mujahideen from sneaking up on the Afghan and Soviet positions undetected, the cunning soldiers, in addition to minefields, installed a discreet wire obstacle resembling a spring mattress at the approach to the post. Anyone caught in the trap could get their foot in, but not out. And this wasn't the only trick the special forces used. The history of the Afghan war tells of many of them. That's how war stories are told. But! The enemy was cunning and dangerous. In such circumstances, only the very best could cope with the strain. One of these was Hero of Russia Anatoly Lebed, who had a specialized education – he graduated from the Lomonosov Military Aviation Technical School near Leningrad, which was created specifically for Afghanistan. Thanks to the knowledge he gained there, many heroes of the Afghan war survived. Now, one can debate long and hard about why the Soviet army fought in Afghanistan. However, what happened, happened. Nothing can be changed. One can only learn from it and move on. And may God grant that new heroes of Russia do not make the mistakes of their predecessors.
