Sony Ending Physical Media for PlayStation-General thoughts

#sony #playstation #physicalmedia These are some of my initial thoughts regarding Sony‘s sudden announcement that they are stopping all physical media production for PlayStation by 2028. Additionally, several hundred films were removed from the PlayStation digital library and they are shutting down the digital stores for past console generations. This is an alarming note not just for gamers but for anyone interested in media preservation. It also signals a potential danger for all forms of physical media to come. If a giant corporation like Sony is going to make a move of this sort it could encourage other studios to consider similar options. I also draw some comparisons to what has happened in digital publishing with e-books and that more storefronts need to allow customers to download files of things that they purchase.
