Pest exterminators who fight a fierce battle while trapped inside protective suits, undeterred by the heat, and hornet exterminators who struggle to remove nests of hornets charging with ferocious intensity. Let’s meet these individuals who are struggling for the safety of citizens in their respective fields. The invasion of venomous hornets: The scene of giant hornet eradication. Hornets arrive every summer. According to 2025 statistics from the National Fire Agency, the number of reports regarding hornet (nest) removal in 2024 was 291,422! As this is more than double the 124,280 cases reported last year, people are now exposed to greater danger from hornets. A report was received that hornets had built a nest in the ceiling of a house in Nonsan. There are people who have stepped forward to eradicate hornets that threaten every corner of a house. These workers are risking their lives to remove a massive hornet nest, measuring 50cm in size, which they discovered by tearing down the ceiling themselves. Today alone, there were four requests to remove hornet nests. Since they travel anywhere in the country when a report comes in, their daily travel distance exceeds 600km. The work is arduous because climbing mountains without trails is a common occurrence while exterminating hornets, and the internal temperature of the protective suits they must wear to avoid stings rises to over 40 degrees Celsius.
