Izumo Taisha Shrine is renowned as the god of matchmaking and good fortune. Its main deity is Okuninushi-no-Okami, known as Daikoku-sama. In the myth of the transfer of the country in the Kojiki, Okuninushi-no-Okami cedes his country to Amaterasu-Omikami of Takamagahara. In exchange for the land, Okuninushi asked for a magnificent shrine to be built, and this is said to be the origin of Izumo Taisha Shrine. There is also a Soga-sha shrine dedicated to Susanoo, who is said to be Okuninushi's ancestor.
