The enshrined deities are "Izanagihimanago, Kafurogi Kumano-no-Okami, and Kushimikeno-no-Mikoto." "Izanagihimanago" = The beloved son of his father, Izanagi-no-Mikoto. "Kafurogi Kumano-no-Okami" = The sacred deity of the Kumano region. "Kushimikeno-Mikoto" = Another name for Susanoo-no-Mikoto. In other words, this is a term of praise for Susanoo-no-Mikoto. Kumano Taisha Shrine is also known as "Hinomoto Hidezome no Yashiro" (The Shrine Where Fire First Came to Japan), as the shrine where fire originated, and is said to have been founded in the Age of the Gods.
