I’ve Driven Past This for 40 Years… So I Finally Painted It
I’ve been driving past this spot for nearly 40 years. I’ve noticed it hundreds of times — different light, different seasons — but I’ve never been able to stop safely. Fast road, blind bends, buses flying past. Painting it on location was never going to happen. So instead, I finally painted it the only sensible way I could — back in the studio, using a Google Maps reference and memory built up over decades of passing it by. This video isn’t really about Google Maps. It’s about how long ideas can sit with you before they’re ready, and how observation over time matters more than standing in front of a subject. If you’ve ever carried a scene around in your head for years, you’ll understand this one. #landscapepainting #artistvlog #paintingfrommemory #pleinairpainting #northumberland #ukartist #paintingprocess
