Salla - The Museum of War and Reconstruction

The Salla War and Reconstruction Museum is located in a building that was originally built in 1948 for railway workers and their families. The museum's exhibition tells the story of the municipality of Salla, which was known as Kuolajärvi until 1936. Salla was involved in the Second World War (1939–1944) and suffered extensive destruction. A huge effort was made to rebuild the municipality – by 1950, almost 400 new farms, many schools and a church had been built.
