Savaş Yurderi, aka Kool Savas, was born in 1975 in Aachen (North Rhine-Westphalia). His parents moved with their two-year-old son to the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul to run their own kindergarten. They were politically left-leaning. His father's worldview clashed with the political leadership of Ankara. After he was imprisoned, his mother fled with her son to stay with relatives in Aachen. When the head of the family was released, the entire family moved to Berlin to start a new life. From then on, the future King of Rap lived in the Kreuzberg district SO36, directly adjacent to the Berlin Wall, in the midst of the wild 1980s, surrounded by Turkish neighbors, punks, and autonomous squatters.
