Entrechat Six
This video presents entrechat six by Herman Cornejo, Erica Cornejo, and Roberto Bolle. An entrechat six (ahn-truh-shah-seess) is a beating jump in which the dancer starts from fifth postion (feet crossed) and performs six crossings of the legs before landing back in fifth position with the other foot in front. For example, a dancer in fifth position with right leg in front jumps with legs crossing from side-to-side with the left leg in front, crossing again with the right leg in front, and finally crossing again with the left leg in front with a landing in fifth position. A good entrechat six has a clean separation of the feet, with nicely articulated beats as the turned out legs move from side-to-side. Also, the dancer’s upper body is calm with flowing arms, making the difficult step appear effortless. A dancer with less proficient entrechat six has unclear delineation in the six crossings as audience members ponder “What was that?” Sometimes turned-in legs move front-to-back rather than the proper side-to-side. Another sign of a poor quality entrechat six is a strained upper body and arms, sometimes with the upper body heaving up and down.deo is about Entrechat six
