Wunderhaus: affordable, carbon-negative homes with high-quality architectural design?

Continuing our theme of speaking with house builders, within the context of a climate and energy crisis, this week we have invited Nico Rensch from Wunderhaus, to hear how they intend to be part of the shift to energy positive, carbon negative, sustainable contemporary living. Their Modern Barn House Design can be bought under licence by self-builders and developers. The self-build market only accounts for 7% in the UK and Wunderhaus believe they can make a substantial impact in this area from a sustainability perspective. The European self-build market is 85 per cent, compared to the UK, where it’s only seven per cent. This is where we can make the most impact from a sustainability perspective. A whole development would be like a mini power station contributing to the grid. A normal house produces somewhere between three and six tons of CO2 per year. Wunderhaus operates at minus three tons. So we’re carbon-negative. Speaker: Nico Rensch is the Founder and Managing Director of Wunderhaus Limited since its inception in 2018. Schooled in architecture in Geneva, Switzerland, he is an internationally renowned architectural designer with a wealth of experience in high-end commercial and residential construction in the UK and abroad. His work is acclaimed internationally and has featured in numerous publications. His ability to rationalise space and optimise layouts, together with an instinct for configuring materials and finishes bestows his projects with a timeless style and elegance, proven qualities that guide and underpin the innovative commitment to modern living of Wunderhaus.
