Jesus against corrupt religious power

Annas questioned Jesus, not to seek truth but to gather grounds for falsely accusing Him. When Jesus was struck for speaking truthfully, the injustice of the process became unmistakable. Caiaphas, the acting high priest also revealed that the heart of Jesus’s trial was not about truth or justice, but was a desperate attempt to retain political and religious power. Annas and Caiaphas acted not from faith, but from fear of losing influence and Roman approval. They represented a corrupt system willing to sacrifice truth in order to maintain control, even to the point of having an innocent Person executed. Our Lord Jesus appeared bound, yet He was the only one truly free—speaking truth, refusing compromise, and willingly moving toward the cross. Glory be to Him! Sadly, currently, there many individuals and groups that claim to be believers in Jesus, but are prepared to sacrifice truth, justice, mercy etc. in order to establish self-serving power over people. Such should be scrupulously identified, repented of and avoided.
