(Stewart Handy Worker, Parkinsons Model F No.9, Record No.75) Vice or Vise? Either way, Al’s got loads of them as he introduces us to his woodworking vice collection. Starting off with his workbench leg vise review he then moves into a detailed description of his vintage bench vises. These old bench vises include: a Record No. 75 vice, a Parkinsons Model F No.9 vice and the Stewart Handy Worker vise – the original multi tool vise. There’s even a look at some hand vise tools. Uncle Al isn't a fan of modern tools, especially vices, as he much prefers the artistry and drive for perfection that can be found in vintage woodworking tools. With a mixture of woodworking, fabrication and blacksmithing taking place in the Dirty Shed Al needs a lot of vices to help out. The current work horse of the shop is his workbench leg vise and Al gives a rundown of why it is such a great piece of kit that dates to over 130 years old. Next up Al discusses his vintage bench vices and their pros and cons. The Record No.75 vice and the Parkinsons Model F No.9 rise will each find a home in the new dirty shed workshop, but it's Al's favourite old bench vice - The Stewart Handy Worker - that is perhaps the most interesting member of Al's woodworking vice collection as it's such a rare vise it'd now be a shame to use it in the workshop and risk damaging it, so Al's floats the idea of incorporating it into a coffee table design - what do you reckon, would that work? To finish off this comprehensive antique vice review, all of which have been restored by Uncle Al, there's a quick look at the benefits of hand vise tools and the negatives of the anvil vise. Of course there's always a bit of silliness and irreverence - please get in touch with any comments!
