Baby Orangutan Myrtle Wants Her Big Brother!

Baby Orangutan Myrtle thinks the world of her big brother Tombol and he is usually close by his little sister and mother Sarikei. It is always wonderful to see the family together in The Realm Of The Red Ape at Chester Zoo. Chester Zoo is has a very successful record of Orangutan births at the zoo and most of the Orangutan Mothers are able to rear their own young without the assistance of zoo staff, this is largely due to the expert care and facilities the World Class Zoo provides for the animals. The current animal population have had valuable experience with babies and have observed relatives caring for young, using this learning and experience to enable them to rear their own offspring Birth of critically endangered orangutan at Chester Zoo Bornean Orangutans have been considered critically endangered since 2016 with an only an estimated 100,000 left in the wild.
