Zani de Ferranti - Nocturne Op. 9 - On an Original 19th Century Guitar - Polivios
Marco Aurelio Zani de Ferranti (1801-1878) Nocturne sur la dernière pensée de C.M. von Weber, Op.9 Zani de Ferranti was considered the foremost virtuoso of his age, praised and admired by the foremost artists and intellectuals of the age. No mere apoocrypha the hand written from Niccolo Paganini wherein he praises Zani de Ferranti as the best of all guitarists still exists in the Feranti family archives. The Nocturne Op. 9 published in 1847 is a theme and variations based on the melody La dernière pensée de C.M. von Weber (Weber''s last thought) which was one of the most famous melodies of the period upon which innumerable compositions have been written. The theme often attributed to C. M. Weber was actually composed by Carl Gottlieb Reissiger (who succeeded Weber as director of the Dresden Opera) as Weber's Last Waltz. We also get a wonderful treat from Weber's Der Freischütz. For those of you familiar with the Opera you know the place! Fantastic! Here I am performing upon a unique original 19th century romantic guitar labelled Phillip Jacob Fischer Lauten und Geigermacher Würzburg Fecit 1868.
