Rondeña para Jose Luis - Composition by Berto Boyd

Dedicated to my maestro and good friend of 20+ years Jose Luis de La Paz aka Jose Luis Rodriguez from Huelva, Spain. I wrote this Rondeña right after we met at La Tania’s Flamenco in the Redwoods in Mendocino - September of 2003. After spending a week with him and hearing all the amazing music he composed I came home to Santa Barbara and was super inspired and wrote this piece. I learned so much from Jose over the years and our friendship was very dear to my heart. He passed last year in January 2025. He is with the angels where he always belonged. We were lucky to have him here. Recorded on a double top cedar Shelton-Farretta using Royal Classics strings and the2mic. Musicians: Randy Tico -fretless bass Melissa Cruz - Palmas Percussion- Terry Longshore & Pyata Penedo Mixed and mastered by Pyata Penedo at Figure 8 Studios in Portland, Oregon.
