This video is based on the original system during his first tenure as Real Madrid manager; between 2016-2018. Defensively, the team would for a narrow and compact shape in order to prevent teams from playing through the middle; forcing them to try and go around instead. Madrid would counter-press for a short time after losing the ball, before regaining their compact defensive shape and remaining solid. In possession, Madrid were versatile.
