We Changed Our Minds About JADAM
[Link to our Patreon: / odoichon ] This weekend on our Hongcheon farm, we hit some major milestones: taking in our first-ever harvest of crops we’ve never grown before, tackling natural pest management, and upgrading our infrastructure. We check on our crop progress, study our neighbor's professional gochu (Korean chili pepper) farm, and set up automatic sprinkler timers to keep our crops thriving while we are away. After looking into the JADAM organic farming method, we decide it’s not the right fit for us, pivoting instead to a natural pest control plan using ladybugs and companion planting. We also harvest fresh cilantro and radishes, watch our wildflower garden bloom, make some backyard kimchi tacos, and break ground on a DIY tool shed foundation using the Pythagorean theorem. It is all part of the raw process of the 5-do-2-chon lifestyle—even when it means crossing paths with two venomous snakes on the property! From natural homesteading to building from scratch, thank you for following our journey. ⏰ Video Chapters 00:00 Intro 00:24 Crop Check & Update 03:55 Identifying Our First Aphid Infestation 04:29 Learning from a Professional Gochu (Korean Chili) Farm 05:03 Setting Up the Farm Sprinkler System 05:41 Dealing with Hungry Caterpillars on the Crops 06:37 Looking into the JADAM Organic Farming Method 07:43 Our Honest Reflections on JADAM 08:20 Plant Name Placards for People Who Want to Sponsor Our Plants! 08:40 How to Correctly Harvest & Pack Fresh Cilantro 09:38 Installing Automatic Timers for Irrigation 10:06 Bringing the Bike to the Farm 10:20 Our Very First Organic Radish Harvest 11:03 Mid-Week Crop Progress Update 12:03 Farm-to-Table Backyard BBQ Cooking 13:07 Tying Up Tomatoes for Vertical Growth 13:38 How to Prune Gochu (Chili Pepper) Plants for Higher Yields 14:00 Our New Pest Control Plan: Ladybugs & Companion Garlic 14:30 Wildlife Safety: Encountering Venomous Snake #2 15:33 Planting Garlic for Companion Pest Repellent 16:39 Breaking Ground on the DIY Tool Shed Foundation 17:39 Patreon Community Announcement 19:02 Squaring the Shed Foundation Using the Pythagorean Theorem 19:45 Planting Marigolds for Natural Pest Deterrent 20:19 Harvesting Cilantro for Homemade Kimchi Tacos 20:47 Backyard Cooking: Making Fresh Farm Guacamole 21:40 Organic Success: The Ladybugs Cleared the Aphids! 22:16 Our Weekend Farm Wildflower Garden is Blooming 22:28 Installing a DIY Shade Cloth for Sensitive Cilantro 23:03 Prepping the Posts for the Tool Shed Structure 24:09 Building the Frame of the DIY Farm Shed 24:54 Planting Garlic Chives (Buchu) 25:27 Succession Planting: Sowing More Radish Seeds 25:47 Gochu (Korean Chili) Growth Update 26:02 Setting Up the Sprinkler Placement for the Week Ahead 27:11 Weekly Reflections & Rural Living Wrap-Up 🌱 Support the Journey If you enjoy this farming journey, rural living in Korea, and DIY farm projects, please give this video a 👍 and leave us a comment!
