Cholistan A Future Written in Water | Community Solutions for Climate Resilience

In the vast desert of Cholistan, water is not just a resource. It is a matter of survival. Extreme heat, prolonged droughts, and the decline of traditional water systems have made access to safe water increasingly difficult. For many communities, this means travelling long distances under harsh conditions, often relying on water sources shared with livestock. This documentary follows a community-centred initiative to change that reality. Through the rehabilitation of traditional ponds (Tobas) and the construction of new water reservoirs, safer and more reliable water access is being brought closer to people. Improved designs, including filtration systems and the separation of human and livestock water use, are helping to reduce health risks while strengthening community resilience. Led by South Asia Partnership Pakistan (SAP-PK), the initiative demonstrates how locally led, nature-based solutions can transform lives in one of Pakistan's most climate-vulnerable regions. By combining indigenous knowledge with technical expertise, the project provides a practical model for improving water security, protecting livelihoods, and informing future approaches to sustainable water management. More than a water project, this is an investment in people, resilience, and a future where communities are better prepared to adapt to a changing climate.
