Planting My Garden In a Heat Wave! 🥵 Big Mistake? New Flower Bed Project Transformation (Part 3)

🌿 Welcome back to Part 3 of our new flower bed makeover! Today's project was one I had been looking forward to—but I may have picked the hottest day of the summer to do it! With temperatures reaching 96°F, I decided it was finally time to get all of the shrubs and plants out of their nursery containers and into the ground. While planting during a heat wave isn't generally recommended, these plants had been waiting for weeks, and I knew they needed a permanent home. In this episode, we continue transforming the new flower bed outside our kitchen window into a beautiful, low-maintenance landscape that will provide year-round interest and become one of the focal points of our property. Along the way, I share why one of my favorite new hydrangeas—Let's Dance Sky View®—is struggling after we removed the sassafras tree that was originally going to provide afternoon shade. The plants are getting much more sun than expected, so now I have to decide whether to move them or find another way to give them some protection. Doug also expands the flower bed even farther, brings in a huge boulder that he dug up right here on our property, and adds topsoil to reshape and level the landscape before we finish planting. In this video you'll see us plant: 🌿 Proven Winners Weigela varieties 🌿 Little Sparks® Spirea by First Editions 🌿 Encore® Azaleas 🌿 Sunshine Ligustrum from the Southern Living Plant Collection 🌿 Florida Sunshine Illicium There's still plenty left to do! I'm planning to add more hydrangeas for long-lasting summer blooms and fill the remaining spaces with beautiful perennials to create the lush English cottage-style garden I've been dreaming of—all while keeping this bed as low maintenance as possible.
