In part two of my 28-pizza-place journey, I head out to Long Island for an unforgettable day of pizza, people, and behind-the-scenes access. First stop: Tori T’s, where Victoria Tiso shows me how she makes her incredible Detroit-style pizza. She’s the daughter of one of the original Louis & Ernie’s crew, and her passion for pizza is unreal. Next, she takes me to King Umberto, the legendary home of the grandma pie, where Giovanni gives me a full VIP tour of the entire King Umberto operation, from dough to dining room. From there, we stop at Taglio for a taste of Rob’s brilliant Roman-style pizza, and finish the day with beers at Root + Branch and a killer pie at Nico’s Charred Pies, run by Anthony. One of the best days of the trip, packed with passion, proper pizza, and some seriously good people. 28 pizza places. 9 days. Let’s keep it rolling.
