Les cascades de BIDJOUKA avec la Team Kribi Vélo Club
When the route was unveiled mid-week within the Kribi Cycling Club, many felt their hearts race. The course profile, the anticipated difficulties, and the memories of those already familiar with the region ultimately deterred several participants. As a result, on Sunday, July 19, 2026, only five brave souls were present at the starting line for this adventure. After gathering at the Place des Fêtes, the motorized convoy headed towards the chiefdom of Petit Zambi, the starting point for this ride, dubbed the "Bidjouka Waterfalls." Scheduled for 8:00 a.m., the start was finally given at 7:37 a.m. The five mountain bikers set off with enthusiasm. The first two kilometers of paved road were covered without difficulty before the steep descent onto the dirt track towards Bipindi. The first stop came quickly, not to catch their breath, but due to a broken chain mid-climb. Fortunately, the team had all the necessary equipment, and the repair was carried out efficiently. A few minutes later, the adventure resumed as if nothing had happened. As the kilometers passed, the peloton naturally split into two, then three, even four groups, depending on each rider's pace. They all eventually converged at the foot of the second major challenge of the day: the formidable climb of Mbikiliki, on the Kribi-Lolodorf road. And what a climb it was! The scene was striking. Log trucks and heavy goods vehicles stuck in the mud followed one another on a severely degraded track. Several times, motorcycles were forced to dismount their passengers to get through the most difficult sections. Safety first. This situation leads us to two questions that come up almost every time we go out: Why do dogs love chasing cyclists so much? And why, once a cyclist has stopped or dismounted, do they almost always move away? If you have an explanation, we'd love to hear it in the comments. Just about a kilometer from their destination at the summit, the first cyclists unfortunately had to turn back. A stalled logging truck completely blocked the trail, making any further progress impossible. What followed was a particularly technical descent. Rocks, ruts, slippery sections… everyone had to rely on their mountain biking skills, and all reached the bottom of the descent without incident. A well-deserved break was then taken at the Bidjouka chiefdom, followed by a stop at the sign for the famous Bidjouka Waterfalls. The scenery was simply magnificent. In this verdant setting, the efforts made since the morning took on their full meaning. It was impossible to cross Bipindi without making a symbolic stop at Liberation Square. A few sips to replenish water supplies, a few smiles exchanged… and then it was time to hit the road again for the final kilometers. As is often the case, natural selection took place gradually. Each found their own pace until they reached the chiefdom of Petit Zambi, where the five adventurers crossed the finish line with the satisfaction of a job well done. We cannot conclude this account without acknowledging the exceptional welcome extended to the entire Kribi Vélo Club team. Once again, the warmth and generosity of the local people greatly contributed to making this day an unforgettable experience. It is often said that a picture is worth a thousand words… So, let's turn to the images that recount this magnificent adventure of July 19, 2026, exploring the Bidjouka Waterfalls.
