24-Stunden-Pflege: Der Alltag mit einem schwerbehinderten Kind

What is life like for a family when their child has a severe disability? Pastor Flo visits two families from the Osnabrück area who show what their daily lives with a severely disabled child are really like. Michaela and Andre care for their son Jannis. Since his birth, it has been clear: he will be dependent on assistance for the rest of his life. The family has learned to live with the challenges – doctor's appointments, therapies, care, sibling support. Everything is meticulously planned, and yet there are always situations where nothing goes according to plan. Anke and Marc are Emily's parents. She, too, has a severe disability. After her birth, a years-long struggle began – with doctors, authorities, and health insurance companies. They had to make many decisions on their own. Today, they know exactly what assistive devices Emily needs – but every new device means more paperwork, applications, and discussions. Both families receive support from the Osnabrück Children's Hospice Service (AKO). Since 2009, this service has been supporting families with children suffering from life-limiting illnesses – with around 80 volunteers who listen, offer support, and are there when everyday life becomes overwhelming. They help not only the sick children, but also their parents and siblings – and, if requested, stay even after a child has died. For Jannis and Emily, this means: a better quality of life. For their parents: moments of respite. And for everyone: the feeling of not being alone. This report shows how much strength and organization goes into raising children with disabilities – and how much joy, humor, and love still find their place. #disability #parents #documentary #report #children #childrenshospice Editorial team: Lea Drabent with support from Amandine Cormier Camera: Matthias Pabst, Amandine Cormier, and Lea Thomas 00:00 Intro 00:32 What disability does Jannis have? 02:00 What disability does Emily have? 03:56 Between the care room and the children's room 05:53 Support from the outpatient children's hospice service 06:44 A visit to the zoo 08:07 Volunteer help for affected families 09:47 Accompaniment until death 10:43 The day of Emily's diagnosis 12:30 "I never wanted a disabled child" 14:25 The day of Jannis's diagnosis 15:30 Physiotherapy 16:39 How long will Jannis live? 17:48 How long will Emily live? 19:40 Humor helps cope with the situation ----------------------------- BASIS:CHURCH We have made it our mission to present reports and documentaries from the heart of life.
