Asmus Odsat - Passing me by [HEALING003]

HEALING003 – Asmus Odsat – Oligocenic EP The third chapter of Healing Potions belongs to Copenhagen producer Asmus Odsat. Oligocenic EP is built from field recordings made at the Beagle Channel in Patagonia — the stretch of water the Yahgan people called Onashaga, 'Channel of the Hunters.' Sealions, seagulls, ocean ambience: the recordings surface across the EP in both processed and unprocessed forms. The title track takes its name from the Oligocene epoch, roughly 33 to 23 million years ago, when the ancestors of modern sealions first appeared. Built across half-tempo bass, jungle-adjacent rhythms, and dub-influenced sound design, the EP reflects Odsat’s long-standing relationship with breakbeat music — a connection that began on Copenhagen jungle dance floors over two decades ago and continues to shape his productions today. ‘COTH’ leans furthest into Odsat’s jungle and breakbeat roots — Bristol-adjacent halftime driven by dense percussion and bass weight, shaped around field recordings captured near Onashaga. The title track ‘Oligocenic’ moves into wistful halftempo, drawing from bass music and IDM, with crackling textures built from heavily processed recordings of salt evaporating in the Atacama desert. ‘Passing Me By’ moves into more dubby and breakbeat-adjacent territory, balancing broken rhythms with a spacious atmosphere. And ‘Bip Bop’, an outlier of sorts, closes the EP with a fast, cheeky tech-house roller built for fun times. Music by Asmus Odsat Mastered by Mitja Miklič (Adventure Studio) Artwork by Anders Dixen
