A major flood threat has emerged in Odisha's Jajpur district after two breaches were reported in the newly constructed Kani River embankment at Kantapada under Dasarathpur Block. One breach measures 50 feet while the other is 30 feet, allowing floodwater to inundate vast agricultural land. The breaches occurred on the right side of the embankment near farmland, affecting panchayats including Malikapur, Duduraanta, Shushua, Mangalpur, and Kanikapada. Floodwater has also entered several low-lying areas. Shockingly, the embankment was reportedly constructed only 15 days ago, raising serious questions over the quality of construction. Continuous heavy rainfall is believed to have weakened the newly built structure.
