The Birth of the Dominator
In late November 1993, starting Buffalo Sabres goaltender Grant Fuhr was sidelined with a significant injury. That same month superstar forward Pat LaFontaine's season was over due to knee issues. The Sabres were out of the playoff picture and had to trust their faith in backup goaltender Dominik Hasek. Hasek's first month was nothing short of spectacular, earning 5 shutouts total, after the team had only 1 over the two years prior. He would go on to finish the season with 7 of them and a sparkling 1.95 GAA, the first goalie to finish below 2 in nearly two decades, leading his team to a playoff berth. This video also contains a clip of Hasek being run by Ottawa's Alexander Daigle. Watch the Sabres response. DISCLAIMER***** The video contains mostly team highlights of goals, not Hasek saves, from his first time as a starter.
