THE CHILDREN OF THE VICTORIA HALL DISASTER
The 16th of June 1883 was probably the darkest day in the history of Sunderland. On that Saturday afternoon 182 children died in a crush at a children's show being held at the Victoria Hall in the town. 116 of the young victims of the disaster were buried at Bishopwearmouth Cemetery over a three day period. As today is the 16th of June I visited the cemetery and some of the few memorials that mention the young victims. ***Apologies, when I did the video I thought it was 16th of June when it was only the 14th of June. Something I only later found out when me and my daughter were sorting out the food in fridge** #sunderland #bishopwearmouthcemetery #victoriahalldisaster #sunderlandhistory #cemetery
