In this first video, you will learn how the starter circuit turns the digital TV backlight on and off. Starter circuits are responsible for turning electronic equipment on and off. These can be made with transistors, integrated circuits, optocouplers, etc. The video uses a transistorized starter circuit for circuit analysis, which is the most common type. The digital TV backlight starter circuit is controlled by the microprocessor. When the user presses the power button, the microprocessor changes the level of the control pin (INV-CTL) from high to low. This causes the transistor in the starter circuit (Q1) to be cut off. When cut off, the collector voltage of transistor Q1 rises, and this DC voltage level is applied to the INV-ON pin of the LED Drive board connector, which then starts operating, generating the power supply voltage for the backlight LEDs. When the power button is pressed again, the microprocessor changes the level of the INV-CTL pin from low to high. This causes the starter circuit transistor (Q1) to saturate, bringing the collector voltage close to zero volts, depolarizing the INV-CTL pin, turning off the LED driver circuit, and extinguishing the backlight LEDs.
