In this video 1, you will learn how to theoretically analyze how the microcontroller controls the system time through a sample of the power grid frequency (60Hz) selected by the limiter or clipper circuit. CIRCUIT ANALYSIS SEQUENCE: The alternating voltage of the power grid (60Hz frequency) passes through the line protection circuit formed by a VDR (Varistor) and a Fused resistor and continues to polarize the diode bridge (BR). A portion of this voltage that passes through the fused resistor RX goes to the clipper/limiter circuit, formed by the resistor RY and clipper diode (D105). When polarized by the alternating power grid, the clipper diode conducts with the negative half-cycles of the grid, preventing them from reaching the photocoupler IC. In this way, only the positive half-cycles can enter pin 1 of the photocoupler IC, causing the infrared diode inside the IC to be polarized and start operating. When it starts operating, the infrared diode turns on, sending the positive half-cycles of the electrical network to the base of the photo transistor inside the photocoupler. The phototransistor amplifies the voltage level of the pulses and sends them through the resistor R109 to the microcontroller IC, so that it can transform these pulses with a frequency of 60Hz into a time of 60 seconds and thus control the system time.
