The Power Station That Threatened Greenwich's Royal Observatory

Greenwich Power Station is hard to miss, but easy to misunderstand. Standing beside the Thames, just below the Royal Observatory and the Prime Meridian, it looks almost out of place — a coal-fired power station in one of London’s most historic landscapes. But it was built for a reason: to power the London County Council's electric trams, and to help move a growing city into the electrical age. This video tells the story of why Greenwich was chosen, why the Observatory objected, and how London tried to balance progress, pollution, precision and power in one remarkable riverside site.
