I Hitchhiked 10 Hours for the Last Boat in Iran

I hitchhiked 10 hours and more than 200 kilometers across southern Iran to catch the last boat to a hidden island most people have never heard of — Lavan Island 🇮🇷 Starting in Bandar Kangan, my mission was simple: trust strangers, make it to Bandar Moqam, and catch the last boat to Lavan before 5 PM. But hitchhiking in Iran is never that simple. I had to find cardboard for my hitchhiking sign, get out of Bandar Kangan, pass the massive refineries near Asaluyeh, catch rides with strangers, ride in a rubbish truck, meet kind locals in Parsian, try local kebab and ice cream, and somehow keep moving before the last boat disappeared. Along the way, strangers helped me again and again — from shop workers and truck drivers to an older couple and local people who made sure I kept going in the right direction. But when I finally arrived at the port… I was too late. This is one of my most unpredictable travel days in Iran, and a reminder of why I love hitchhiking: you never really know what is going to happen, but sometimes trusting the road leads you somewhere unforgettable.
